Each year, thousands of people cross the borders of the United States illegally in an attempt to escape poverty and violence in their countries. For matters of national security and sovereignty, the borders should be secured and all convicted felons already inside should be deported. Nevertheless, we must not ignore the humanitarian crisis that would arise as a result of forcing 12 million people out of this country, most of whom are otherwise largely responsible for working our crops, preparing our food, and cleaning or building our cities. Governor Mitt Romney's plan to deport millions of people in as quickly as 90 days is both inhumane and impractical. Securing our borders and bringing everyone out of the shadows, while allowing them to get to the back of the line without sending them back first, will keep families together and will prevent a sudden economic, social and humanitarian crisis. This November 2008, vote for real change. Vote Democratic!
